Botanical Drawing Workshops
with Georgia Lingwood
February 16th & March 29th 2020
Our March 29th workshop has been postponed due to the Corvid 19 situation, new dates will be issued as soon as possible.
Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of botanical illustration within the inspirational setting of a Grade II listed Tudor gallery space with artist Georgia Lingwood.
Botanical illustration is the unique art of depicting the form, colour and intricate detail of plant life. Prior to the invention of photography, science relied on the work of botanical artists to depict the world’s vast varieties of flora and fauna. Dating as far back to 50 CE when an ancient Greek botanist created an illustrated book to identify plants with medicinal qualities, this beautiful technique is still appreciated and explored today.
Working in a variety of mediums such as pencil, watercolour and silverpoint, Georgia’s botanical illustrations depict her fascination with the intricate details of plants at all stages of their life cycle. Her recent works in silverpoint depict the delicate beauty of dried flowers, leaves and seed pods.
Within this workshop we will explore the techniques required to create a beautiful botanical artwork using pencil on high quality handmade paper. Whether you are a professional artist or someone who wishes to explore something new you are very welcome. We will be drawing from life, using a selection of fresh and dried plants provided however if you wish to bring in your own specimens please do. We will discuss composition, light and shadow, and a variety of pencil drawing techniques to enable you to depict a beautiful representation of your chosen botanical specimen.
Cost of the workshop including materials and refreshments: £35
